Bison Soccer Shutout at Missouri Southern

JOPLIN, MO. – Three different players scored goals in the second half to lead Missouri Southern to a 3-0 non-conference men's soccer victory Sunday over Harding.
 
After a scoreless first half, sophomore Ben Pantzlaff scored just over two minutes into the second half to put the Lions ahead to stay. Senior Dustin Gorechan made it 2-0 in the 52nd minute, and junior Austin Whiles completed the scoring in the 79th minute. All three goals came against Harding sophomore Andrew Flesher, who replaced starter James Thurmond after halftime.
 
Harding (0-2) remained scoreless two games into the season, but managed 10 shots, including eight on-goal, against Missouri Southern (2-0).
 
The Lions had 22 shots with 15 coming in the second half.
 
Missouri Southern sophomore goalkeeper Jon Hansen made eight saves in recording the shutout.
 
Harding head coach Dr. Greg Harris made two changes in his starting line-up from the Bisons' 1-0 loss to Christian Brothers on Thursday. Sophomore Jay Skinner started at defender in place of Steve Hedeman, and junior Carter Truax started at forward in place of injured senior Brock Williams.
 
Through two games, the lone Bison to play all 180 minutes is sophomore defender Chad Marshall.
 
Harding returns to action Tuesday with a neutral-site, non-conference match-up with 10th-ranked Lynn of Boca Raton, Fla. The teams will meet in Huntsville, Ala., for the contest.
